ORP (Oxidation-Reduction Potential) is a key indicator of how effective your spa’s sanitizer is at keeping the water clean and safe. It measures the sanitizer’s ability to neutralize contaminants like bacteria and organic matter.

ORP is measured in millivolts (mV).

  • A higher ORP means the sanitizer is more effective.

  • A lower ORP means sanitation may be insufficient.

Recommended ORP range

For most spas, the recommended ORP range is:

  • 650 to 750 mV

This range helps ensure proper sanitation while maintaining water comfort and clarity.

Special note for Frog @ease systems

If your spa uses a Frog @ease® system, the recommended ORP target is different.

⚠️ Frog @ease users:
Keep your ORP around 350 mV.

Frog @ease uses a low-chlorine sanitation method that operates effectively at lower ORP levels. Higher ORP readings are not required and do not indicate poor water quality when using this system.

How Gecko waterlab helps

Gecko waterlab continuously monitors ORP by taking readings over 1,000 times per week.

  • If ORP is too low, the Gecko App may recommend adding sanitizer.

  • If ORP is too high, it can indicate excess sanitizer, which may cause skin or eye irritation.

Adjustments are recommended directly in the app to help bring ORP back to the appropriate range for your sanitation system.
