Run your first water test

Last updated About 12 hours ago

Overview

Testing your water is how the Gecko App learns what is going on in your spa. Once it has a reading, it can tell you exactly what to add and how much, so you are never guessing. Your first test only takes a minute, and you do not need to understand the numbers yet. The app will read them for you.

Do this right after you have set your sanitizer and added your products.

Two ways to enter a test

You have two options, and you can always switch between them.

Scan a test strip (Premium) Dip a compatible test strip, then use your phone camera to scan it. The app reads the colors and fills in your values automatically. Fast, and it avoids manual mistakes.

Enter your readings by hand Type in your results yourself, whether they come from test strips, a store water test, or another kit. This option is always available, with or without a subscription.

How to run your test

  1. Open the Water section in the Gecko App.

  2. Tap Test Your Water.

  3. Choose to scan a strip or enter your readings manually.

  4. Follow the prompts to scan or type in your values.

  5. Submit your test.

💡 Tip: The app highlights which readings are due soon, like your sanitizer, and which you only need to check now and then, like alkalinity or hardness. Follow those cues and you will always know what to test next.

For the best strip reading

If you are using test strips, a few small habits make a big difference:

Use a fresh strip that is not expired. Dip it as the strip instructions say, then read it quickly. Place it on a clean, flat, light colored surface. Use bright, even light and avoid shadows, glare, and direct sun.

What happens after you submit

Your readings appear on the Water dashboard, and your water status updates to one of three states:

Balanced means your water is in good shape. Adjustments needed means a few minor corrections are recommended. This is completely normal, especially at first. Action required means something needs attention soon.

The app then lists the actions to take. Work through them in order, and remember the golden rule: alkalinity first, then pH, then sanitizer.

⚠️ Notice: After you add a chemical, your reading will not change right away. Give the water time to circulate and mix before you test again.
