Choosing and setting your sanitizer

Overview
Your sanitizer is what keeps your spa water clean and safe to soak in. It is also the first thing to set up in the Gecko App, because every water care recommendation and every dose the app suggests depends on knowing how you sanitize.
If you are not sure which sanitizer you use, do not worry. This guide explains the options in plain language, helps you pick the one that fits your spa, and shows you how to set it in the app.
Why this comes first
When the app knows your sanitizer and the exact products you own, it can tell you what to add and how much, tailored to your spa. Skip this step and the recommendations will only be generic guesses. Two minutes here makes every future suggestion accurate.
The four options, made simple
The Gecko App supports four sanitizer methods. Here is what each one is like day to day.
Chlorine The most common choice. It is affordable, easy to find, and acts fast. It has a slightly stronger smell than the others and works best when you keep your pH in range. A good all around option if you are starting out.
Bromine Popular for hot tubs because it stays effective in warm water and is gentler on the eyes and skin for many people. It usually sits in a floating dispenser and works steadily over time. It tends to cost a little more than chlorine.
@Ease A low effort cartridge system (the FROG @Ease system). It releases sanitizer automatically and needs very little day to day attention, which makes it a favorite for people who want simple upkeep. It relies on its own replacement cartridges.
Salt A salt system makes its own chlorine from salt added to the water, so you handle chemicals less often. Many owners like the softer feel of the water. It usually costs more up front and requires a spa equipped with a salt generator.
💡 Tip: Not sure what you have? Check what came with your spa or what your dealer set you up with. If a dispenser floats in the water, it is likely chlorine or bromine. If your spa has a salt cell, you are on salt.
How to set it in the app
Open the side menu (☰) in the top left corner.
Go to Settings, then the General tab.
Tap Edit in the General section.
Scroll to Sanitizer and select the method that matches your spa.
Tap Save.

⚠️ Notice: Changing your sanitizer later will remove any products that no longer match from active use, so the app keeps giving you the right guidance for your new setup.
Add your actual products
Once your method is set, tell the app the real chemicals you own. You can scan a product barcode or add it by hand. This lets the app calculate exact doses for your brand instead of generic amounts, so you never over treat or waste product.
